Central Management Console

To resolve the NovaBACKUP CMC - Central Management Console related activation error "Failed to activate license online: The input is not a valid Base 64 string as it contains a non-base 64-bit character, more than 2 padding characters, or an illegal character among the padding characters".

This is what this exact "Base 64" license activation error will look like on screen:

First of all make sure you have exactly placed the correct characters for the license key in the entry box, with the dashes in-tact, to specify the license key in and IF YOU PASTE THE KEY IN make sure to take out the extra space at the end that usually is inserted here if you do USE PASTE.  Make sure the key has all of the original dashes in-tact such as "FFFFF-FFFFF".  The key will not work unless the dashes are in-tact exactly as they show in your order where we show your CMC license key.  If that does not work do the following:

1. Open Windows Services ("services.msc" command via Start Menu -> Run or Search entry box).

2. Navigate to these two services in the list "Management Server" and the one entry below that "Management Web Server" which are the Central Management Console.

3. Right click on each of those two services listed above and STOP those two services.

4. Navigate to this folder via Windows Explorer:

"C:\ProgramData\"

5. Go to Windows Explorer and click on Folder Options and then Disable (un-check) the option listed as "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)".

6.  Refresh the C:\ProgramData\ folder via Windows Explorer to see some additional protected files in that folder.

7. Delete this particular file (your file may be slightly different named but as long as it has the same amount of characters in it and the file extension is ".dat":

"C:\ProgramData\EDBC777B-3B54-4D95-80F4-91CC0C30C8DD.dat"

8. Open Windows Services ("services.msc" command via Start Menu -> Run or Search entry box).

9. Navigate to these two services in the list "Management Server" and the one entry below that "Management Web Server" which are the Central Management Console.

10. Right click on each of those two services listed above and START those two services.

11. As you normally would, start up the Central Management Console via the desktop or Start Menu and log in to it with your regular username and password that you had been using (or the default).

12. You will now get the chance to Activate the CMC with your license key.  Go ahead and do that via the Home tab -> Activation button, it should come up to this screen by default if it detects that the program is not Activated.

13. If the product activates properly then this is all that is needed and you are done, if it doesn't work then follow the remainder of these steps next:

4. Uninstall the current installed CMC program titled as "Management Server" via the Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features area.  This will leave the CMC database folder in-tact.

5. Rename the existing C:\Program Files (x86)\NovaStor\NovaBACKUP Central Management Console\ folder to something else so that the CMC database is out of the equation.

6. Download and install the CMC version that matches the version of the NovaBACKUP client's that are connecting to it.  The CMC direct download links are as follows:

After installing CMC successfully and logging in to it with the default username and password admin/admin you will have to restart the service named "Backup Client Agent" on each machine that connects to your CMC after re-installing the CMC.  Make sure the service that is running on each client machine that the NovaBACKUP Professional/Server/Business Essentials client software is installed on is set to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" for the "Startup Type".  Refresh the CMC screen after restarting the "Backup Client Agent" service on each machine.  You can then change the CMC password at this point if you wish.
