The NovaNET Service (nnwinsdr.exe) can be controlled through the Windows

Command Line, with the nnwinsvc.exe utility. This utility is in the Novastor

Backup directory ([Install_Path, by default), and must be run from there.

 

SYNTAX:

WINDOWS

nnwinsvc.exe [options]

 

LINUX

nnlinsvc.exe [options]

 

NETWARE

nnnetsvc.exe [options]

 

OPTIONS:

-m[name] machine name (default is local machine)

-n[name] service name (default is NovaNET)

-b[name] binary name (default is nnwinsdr.exe on Windows machines)

 

-i install the service

-r remove the service

-s start the service

-x stop the service

-q query service status

 

NOTE:

To display the above at a Command Prompt:


1. Open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > CMD {ENTER})

2. To change to the NovaNET Directory type the following at a Command

Prompt:

A. CD\ {ENTER}

B. CD "Program Files" {ENTER}

C. CD Novastor {ENTER}

D. CD "NovaNET" {ENTER}

3. Type the following at the Command Prompt:

nnwinsvc -help {ENTER}

 

TO QUERY THE NOVANET SERVICE ON THE LOCAL MACHINE:


1. Open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > CMD {ENTER})

2. To change to the NovaNET Directory type the following at a Command

Prompt:

A. CD\ {ENTER}

B. CD "Program Files" {ENTER}

C. CD Novastor {ENTER}

D. CD "NovaNET" {ENTER}

3. Type the following at the Command Prompt:

nnwinsvc -q {ENTER}

4. This will display the current status of the NovaNET Service.

 

TO INSTALL THE NOVANET SERVICE ON THE LOCAL MACHINE:


1. Open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > CMD {ENTER})

2. To change to the NovaNET Directory type the following at a Command

Prompt:

A. CD\ {ENTER}

B. CD "Program Files" {ENTER}

C. CD Novastor {ENTER}

D. CD "NovaNET" {ENTER}

3. Type the following at the Command Prompt:

nnwinsvc -i {ENTER}

4. This will install the NovaNET Service on the local machine (the

service must still be started).

 

TO START THE NOVANET SERVICE ON THE LOCAL MACHINE:


 Start the NovaNET Service by using ONE of the following methods:


A. Using the Windows Command Line:


1) Open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > CMD {ENTER})

2) To change to the NovaNET Directory type the following at a

Command Prompt:

a. CD\ {ENTER}

b. CD "Program Files" {ENTER}

c. CD Novastor {ENTER}

d. CD "NovaNET" {ENTER}

3) Type the following at the Command Prompt:

nnwinsvc -s {ENTER}

4) This will stop the NovaNET Service on the local machine.


B. Using the Microsoft Management Console (MMC):


1) Right click the "My Computer" Icon and select "Manage" from the

context menu.

2) In the left Pane, expand the "Services and Applications item" (click

the "+" to the left of the item).

3) In the left Pane , select the "Services" Item.

4) Locate the NovaNET Service in the right Pane, right click it

and select "Properties" from the context menu to view all available

options.

5) Click Start.

 

TO STOP THE NOVANET SERVICE ON THE LOCAL MACHINE:


Stop the NovaNET Service by using ONE of the following methods:


A. Using the Windows Command Line:

1) Open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > CMD {ENTER})

2) To change to the NovaNET Directory type the following at a

Command Prompt:

a. CD\ {ENTER}

b. CD "Program Files" {ENTER}

c. CD Novastor {ENTER}

d. CD "NovaNET" {ENTER}

3) Type the following at the Command Prompt:

nnwinsvc -x {ENTER}

4) This will stop the NovaNET Service on the local machine.


B. Using the Microsoft Management Console (MMC):

1) Right click the "My Computer" Icon and select "Manage" from the

context menu.

2) In the left Pane, expand the "Services and Applications item" (click

the "+" to the left of the item).

3) In the left Pane , select the "Services" Item.

4) Locate the NovaNET Service in the right Pane, right click it

and select "Properties" from the context menu to view all available

options.

5) Click Stop.

 

Novastor Technologies Technical Support may ask you to uninstall and reinstall

the NovaNET Service. This should be done using the nnwinsvc.exe utility.

 

TO UNINSTALL THE NOVANET SERVICE FROM THE LOCAL MACHINE:


1. Open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > CMD {ENTER})

2. To change to the NovaNET Directory type the following at a Command

Prompt:

A. CD\ {ENTER}

B. CD "Program Files" {ENTER}

C. CD Novastor {ENTER}

D. CD "NovaNET" {ENTER}

3. Type the following at the Command Prompt:

nnwinsvc -r {ENTER}

4. This will remove the NovaNET Service from the local machine.

5. To reinstall the service please follow the directions above for installing

the NovaNET Service.

 

WORKING WITH THE NOVANET SERVICE ON A REMOTE MACHINE

 

Command Line Service Control has been expanded in NovaNET to allow the

manipulation of the Service on Remote Machines, to facilitate ease of

administration.

 

NOTE:

The user running the nnwinsvc command MUST have permissions to perform the

action on the remote machine.

 

The -m[NAME] switch requires that there be no space between the switch and the

machine name, as shown in the following examples.

 

TO QUERY THE NOVANET SERVICE ON THE REMOTE MACHINE "SERV01":


1. Open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > CMD {ENTER})

2. To change to the NovaNET Directory type the following at a Command

Prompt:

A. CD\ {ENTER}

B. CD "Program Files" {ENTER}

C. CD Novastor {ENTER}

D. CD "NovaNET" {ENTER}

3. Type the following at the Command Prompt:

nnwinsvc -mSERV01 -q {ENTER}

4. This will display the current status of the NovaNET Service on the

machine "SERV01".

 

TO INSTALL THE NOVANET SERVICE ON THE REMOTE MACHINE "SERV01":


1. Open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > CMD {ENTER})

2. To change to the NovaNET Directory type the following at a Command

Prompt:

A. CD\ {ENTER}

B. CD "Program Files" {ENTER}

C. CD Novastor {ENTER}

D. CD "NovaNET" {ENTER}

3. Type the following at the Command Prompt:

nnwinsvc -mSERV01 -i {ENTER}

4. This will install the NovaNET Service on the remote machine "SERV01"

(the service must still be started).

 

TO START THE NOVANET SERVICE ON THE REMOTE MACHINE "SERV01":


1. Open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > CMD {ENTER})

2. To change to the NovaNET Directory type the following at a Command

Prompt:

A. CD\ {ENTER}

B. CD "Program Files" {ENTER}

C. CD Novastor {ENTER}

D. CD "NovaNET" {ENTER}

3. Type the following at the Command Prompt:

nnwinsvc -mSERV01 -s {ENTER}

4. This will start the NovaNET Service on the remote machine "SERV01".

 

TO STOP THE NOVANET SERVICE ON THE REMOTE MACHINE "SERV01":

1. Open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > CMD {ENTER})

2. To change to the NovaNET Directory type the following at a Command

Prompt:

A. CD\ {ENTER}

B. CD "Program Files" {ENTER}

C. CD Novastor {ENTER}

D. CD "NovaNET" {ENTER}

3. Type the following at the Command Prompt:

nnwinsvc -mSERV01 -x {ENTER}

4. This will stop the NovaNET Service on the remote machine "SERV01".

 

Novastor Technologies Technical Support may ask you to uninstall and reinstall

4. This will remove the NovaNET Service from the remote machine

"SERV01".

5. To reinstall the service please follow the directions above for installing

the NovaNET Service.
