Using Windows Environment Variables with the CMC

Central Management Console
Last Updated: Apr 10, 2013 11:21AM PDT

The Central Management Console allows you to utilize Windows Environment variables to customize job scripts. This gives you greater flexibility in creating backup jobs (scripts) that can be run on groups of computers you are monitoring.

There are also a few device variables you can use when creating the jobs:

  • [NET] for network devices
  • [DISK] for local disk drives
  • [XSP] for xSP devices
  • [TAPE] for the first tape drive.

Now, we could list all of the Windows Environment Variables in this article, but since others have already made the list for us,we are going to cheat just a bit and simply link to a reference at Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environment_variable#Default_Values_on_Microsoft_Windows

So imagine you want to create a single job to use on multiple clients.   You could have the destination go to something like:

Network\Fileserver\%COMPUTERNAME%\Novabackups
