"Plugin source data not found" when backing up Exchange, SQL, VMs

When NovaBACKUP is preparing to copy data associated with one of our plugins, (Exchange, SQL, VMware, Hyper-V) there must be enough space on the local drive for the initial back up to take place before it is moved to theVDATA directory.

If you receive the error "Plugin source data not found" you may not have enough space on the drive (where the application is installed) to back up the data.

  • Please make sure there is sufficient space available on your local drives to accommodate an additional copy of the data you are backing up.

  • Under the Default settings of the application, on the tab labeled "Advanced", you have the option of moving your temporary file location to another drive if you don’t have enough disk space. You will need disk space equal to your largest plugin. If you have three, ten gigabyte databases, you will need thirty gigabytes of free disk space. This is only temporary while the job runs, afterwards this folder is cleared.

  • Another cause for "Plugin source data not found" is if the API module itself is unable to backup for some reason other than disk space. To troubleshoot this; try and do a normal backup from within Sql or Exchange to make sure that runs without an error itself. Novabackup simply calls the API for the backup procedure. If you receive errors from within Studio Manager or NTbackup already, Novabackup is going to have problems as well.
