In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to clear the backup data from only a single specific backup job on your managed and hosted 'NovaBACKUP Cloud Storage' device from within NovaBACKUP client (21.x and newer versions). Note: This guide is only useful now if you only need and want to remove the backup data from a specific backup job in the cloud, but for other backup jobs that you do not want to remove any backup data from that will remain the same; and it requires that you run that backup job multiple times in a row to see the impact or difference to the Cloud account usage. Just so that you know there is now (starting in CMon 21.1.1219, but that did not exist prior to that) a way for the majority of our end user's, that have a Cloud Account (a CMon website user account) of their own to delete ALL of the backup data on your own managed and hosted 'Cloud Storage Account', that will affect all 'Cloud Backup' device type devices that use that account fully (in a single easy button press action) that does not require modifying backup job and running it; in that case you should read the other KB article how-to guide that we have for that here: How to use the "Delete Data" function in the CMon UI to delete your own Cloud data (CMon 21.1.1219.1 and newer versions)" to now equate to "How to use the "Delete Data" function in the CMon UI to delete ALL of the backup data on your own managed and hosted 'Cloud Storage Account', that will affect all 'Cloud Backup' device type devices that use that account (CMon 21.1.1219 and newer versions).
Prerequisites
Before you start, ensure that you have:
- NovaBACKUP installed on your system.
- A cloud storage account set up and connected to NovaBACKUP.
- Your previously configured Cloud Backup Jobs.
Step 1: Open all of your existing Cloud Backup Job(s), in that case if you do have more than 1 existing Cloud Backup job, then each existing backup job would have to be opened and modified one by one, as each backup job that did store to the Cloud already would have to be edited (and executed multiple times) for these instructions to work, that you do want to remove either a partial amount or the majority of the backup data on
- Open NovaBACKUP: Launch the NovaBACKUP software
- Open the first single Backup Job that you do want to remove either a partial amount or the majority of the backup data on: Navigate to the backup section of the software and click the Open Job button in the upper right hand corner of the screen and open your Cloud Backup Job.
Step 2: Deselect the data you no longer want stored in the cloud, for that particular single backup job only
- Deselect Files and Folders you want removed from Cloud Storage: Deselect the files and folders you no longer want in the cloud. You do need to keep at least one file or folder selected in this backup job though.
Step 3: Change Retention to Clear Cloud Data
-
Change Retention:
- Go to the settings for your backup job.
- Locate the option for Device Retention and change it to 1 Day instead of what it is.
Step 4: Run Backup to Clear Cloud Data
-
Run the backup job:
- At this point you can manually run the backup job via the Backup Now button. This job will tell NovaBACKUP that you no longer want to keep/protect the files/folders that are no longer selected for backup.
- Unfortunately you will need to run this same backup job at least 2 more times and at least 1 day apart to make sure it clears all of the cloud data for this backup job. It is recommended to schedule this job if it is not already scheduled.
Note: If the end goal is to delete all of the data on your 'NovaBACKUP Cloud Storage' device then it will be much easier to follow the "How to use the "Delete Data" function in the CMon UI .." KB article above this one (as long as you have a CMon user that has the correct role permissions; the "Edit Cloud Storage Accounts" permission is required). The permissions needed are explained in the CMon Help Documentation (replace the base domain name address portion of this URL with the CMon Server address that you are assigned to in that case, to be able to view this link after signing in to CMon with your user): https://login.online-backup.com/managementserver/Help/articles/Cloud%20Storage%20Accounts/View%20Amazon%20S3%20compatible%20cloud%20storage%20account.html
