Defining and managing nodes
Objective
You want to define or manage nodes.
How to proceed
1. Go to System > Nodes Management.
⇨ The Nodes Management dialog box opens.
1. Right-click on the Nodes pane and left-click on Add Node from the context menu.
⇨ The Add Node dialog box opens.
2. Enter the host name or IP address and click on [Fetch].
⇨ The node information is displayed.
1. Select the Yes or No for the Virtual Machine.
2. Click on [Add] to generate the new node.
Result
The new node is located in the Nodes Management list. The node can be subsequently configured.
Setting up a VMware proxy
General information
A proxy must be set up before a backup job can be defined for a virtual machine.
How to proceed
1. Go to System > Nodes Manager.
⇨ The Nodes Manager dialog box opens. The list of all defined nodes is displayed. Previously defined VMware proxies are marked Yes in the attribute list under VM-Proxy.
2. Select the desired node in the Nodes pane and left-click the Edit Node from the context menu.
⇨ The Edit Node dialog box opens.
3. Click on the List of managed EXX/vCenter combo box to view the previously defined proxies or to define a new proxy.
4. Select Manage Proxy to define a new proxy.
⇨ The VMware Server Configuration dialog box opens.
5. Click on [Add].
6. Enter the server name, user name, and password.
7. Click on [Test].
⇨ This tests if the login information (user name and password) is correct.
Result
If the login information is correct, the proxy can be added by clicking on [Add]. The proxy has been defined.
Configuring addresses
Objective
You want to configure the address for a selected node.
How to proceed
1. Go to System > Nodes Manager.
2. In the Nodes pane, select the node you want to assign to a group and select Edit Node from the context menu.
⇨ The Edit Node dialog box opens.
3. Open the Configuration Address > Manage Addresses context menu.
⇨ The Configure Address dialog box opens..
4. Enter the desired name and click on [OK] to save the data.
Result
The names are assigned to the node.
Assigning Nodes to a Group
Objective
You want to assign a node to a group.
How to proceed
1. Go to System > Nodes Manager.
2. In the Nodes pane, select the node you want to assign to a group and select Edit Node from the context menu.
⇨ The Edit Node dialog box opens.
3. Open the Groups > List of assigned Groups dialog box.
⇨ The group to which it is already assigned is shown. The node can be assigned to an additional group using Manage Groups.
4. Click on Manage Groups.
⇨ The Edit Groups dialog box opens with the list of assigned groups and unassigned groups.
5. Use the [Add to] key to select and drag the desired group into the Assigned Groups window.
6. If required, use [New group] to create a new group.
7. Click on [Close].
Result
The node is assigned to the selected group and the newly generated group.
Configuring cluster nodes
Objective
You want to create and configure a new cluster node.
Opening the dialog
1. Go to System > Nodes Management.
⇨ The Nodes Management dialog box opens.
1. Right-click on the Nodes pane and left-click on Add Node from the context menu.
⇨ The Add Node dialog box opens.
2. Enter the host name or IP address.
The system detects that the entered host name in this example is a cluster node. A prompt appears asking if the cluster configuration should be called.
1. Respond with [Yes] to call the cluster configuration.
⇨ The Add Cluster Node dialog box opens.
The top section provides information about the cluster configuration.
1. Enter the directory used for the backup software metadata in the Please enter a UNC directory text field. The directory must be entered in accordance with UNC conventions and must be accessible by both systems.
2. Click on [Add] to save the entries.
Result
A new cluster node has been defined.
