Backup/Restore - File Backup
General description
The file backup allows you to back up files on a local or remote drive.
Defining job
On the Job tab, enter the name of the backup job, select the node, the object to be saved and the backup type.
Job description panel | |
Job name | Text field for job name. |
Node name | Combo box: All systems on which the node can be run are listed. |
Job object | Combo box: Choose whether you wish to make a local or a global backup of the object. The global objects defined in Backup/Restore > Job Objects are listed for selection. |
[Select fileset]: Opens the browser window where you can select the files/directories to be backed up. | |
Fileset | Shows the job objects to be included ("+") or excluded ("-") in the backup job. |
Backup Scheme panel | |
Full Backup | All data to be backed up are backed up in full. |
Full Backup all changes since | Enter the date from which all changes are to be saved. If another job is running, the date is automatically updated. Only files whose change stamp is after the date entered here are backed up. This option is also known as the date filter. |
Incremental | Only the files that have been modified or first saved since the last backup are saved (incremental or in full). |
Differential | All files that has been modified or first saved since the last full backup are saved. |
Full - Incremental | Select this option to run 2 related backup jobs (Full Backup and Incremental), whereby the full backup job changes the date filter of the incremental backups. |
Full - Differential | Select this option to run 2 related backup jobs (Full Backup and Differential), whereby the full backup job changes the date filter of the incremental backups. |
Incremental Forever | With this option, a backup job that sets its own data file upon each run is created. As a consequence, only the files that have been modified since the last backup will be saved when job is run again. |
Generic Relations | You have the option to define relationships between different backup jobs. It is for example possible to apply the date of a previously run backup job to another backup job, which then saves all files that have been modified since the previous job. The Update Job(s) field shows all jobs assigned to the node. Example: Various-VM (full) is selected. The activated and terminated Various-VM (full) job forwards the selected date to the nextVarious-VM (diff) job in the list. When the Various-VM (diff) job is started, all data that has have been modified since the above date are saved. Example: Self refers to the backup job itself. With this option, everything is saved since the backup job has been run without errors for the last time. The date is not forwarded to another backup job. The date is only updated within this job. If a backup job has been completed without errors, the date is updated. If a backup job has been completed with errors, the date is not updated. |
