Backup/Restore - Advanced options
On the General options tab, define the general options for the selected backup job.
Alphabetical list of general options:
Add system state (VSS)
This option allows you to add a system state backup of the Windows system to the backup. For Windows 7 / 2008 and later. This function uses VSS and communicates with the system state writer for VSS.
Selected:

A system state backup is added to the backup job.

Deselected:

No system state backup is added to the backup job.

Add system state (wbadmin/ntbackup)
This option allows you to add a system state backup of the Windows system to the backup. For Windows 2008 and older (XP/2003).
The function uses the following methods defined for the Windows operating system:
- ▪ ntbackup for Windows 2003
- ▪ wbadmin for Windows 2008

A system state backup is added to the backup job.
The software automatically adds the REPAIR subdirectory of your Windows installation to the file information.
By default, the generated SYSTEMSTAT.BKF file is saved in the REPAIR subdirectory of your Windows installation. You have however the option to select a different path.

No system state backup is added to the backup job.

Limit network bandwidth
This option is used to limit the bandwidth for the transfer of the data. You have thus the option to limit the load the backup processes poses on the system.

Use client compression
This option enables you to define the compression(Lempel-Ziv) of the data to be backed up.
Deselected:

Data is not compressed.

Data is compressed.

Selection of compression level:

rle:
|
run-length encoding (default). For maximum transfer rate with minimum compression. This compression option is most compatible with hardware compression.

zlib1 to zlib9
|
Compression rate (except: zlib7)

Use client parallel splits
This option allows you to split the data into two sections of equal size that are then processed simultaneously.
Activated.

Backup data is split.
Combo box: Number of sections (default: 2).

Deselected:
|
No split.
|
Use client software encryption
This option is used to encrypt the data to be backed up. For encryption, you must store a key on the client.
Selected:
|
Data is encrypted.
|
Deselected:
|
Data is not encrypted.
