[Manual] Advanced Backup Options
NovaStor DataCenter
Backup/Restore - Advanced options
On the Advanced options tab, you can define advanced options for the backup job. (Default Options shown):
Alphabetical list of advanced options:
Allow missing files
This option enables you to permit backups even if there are files missing.
Selected:
Missing files do not result in an error message. Instead of an error message, a warning is displayed in the Monitoring & Report Manager.
Deselected:
If there is a file missing in the backup, an error message is generated.
Backup from snapshot (VSS)
This option enables you to back up data from a snapshot.
For operating system Windows7 / 2008 and higher.
Selected:
Snapshot files are backed up. After the backup job is completed, the snapshot can be retained or deleted.
Combo box: Delete snapshot (recommended) or Keep Snapshot.
Deselected:

Clear client files archive bit
This option allows you to reset the archive bit for the backup job.
Selected:
Archive bit is reset.
Deselected:
Archive bit is not reset.
Create tape directory
With this option, you can create a directory containing information on the location of the files on the tape. This directory is created during the backup process. The function is particularly useful if you need to locate a file quickly on a tape for a restore.
Selected:
A directory containing information on the location of the files on the tape is created.
Deselected:
No directory is created.
Ignore offline-/sparse-bit
This option allows you to back up offline files (offline bit is set).
As long as the files are accessible, backing up is not a problem. Depending on the hardware/software, the backup might however take much longer. If the offline data is not available on time, the entire backup job is determined unsuccessful.
Selected:
All offline files are backed up.
Deselected:
Offline files are not backed up.
Skip mountpoints (junctions)
This option allows you to make network drives available, for example in Windows NT. The function skips the logical mount points during the backup process. The logical mount points are used in Windows NT to paste the directory structure of one physical drive to another. By skipping the mount points, you can prevent multiple backups of local data.
Selected:
Mount points are skipped.
Deselected:
Mount points are not skipped.
Store ACL information
With this option, you can determine whether an ACL is to be stored. The ACL determines the users that are permitted to use services and files.
The ACL does not contain the Net Share information stored in the Windows Registry.
Selected:
ACL information is stored.
Deselected:
ACL information is not stored.
Store files with archive bit
By choosing this option, you can ensure that only files with an archive bit are backed up. After the backup is completed, NovaBackup DataCenter resets the archive bit.
Selected:
Only files for which the archive bit is set are backed up.
Deselected:
The archive bit is ignored.
Update files last access date
This option enables you to define whether the date of the last backup files is to be reset to the date of the last file use.
Selected:
After the backup is completed, the date of the file is reset to the last file access date (including read-only).
Deselected:
The date is not reset.
Use client debug level
This option allows you to store debug levels.
Selected:
Debug level is stored. Select debug level (1 to 5).
Deselected:
Debug level is not stored.
Use client exclude file
With this option, you can exclude certain files from the backup job. The files to be excluded from the backup are recorded in the DONTSTORE file.
Selected:
The files listed in the DONTSTORE file are not included in the backup job.
Deselected:
The DONTSTORE file is not read. All files are backed up.
Use client fileset search

Multiscreen data is backed up.
Deselected:
Multiscreen data is not backed up.
Use server device wait
This option allows you to choose whether an error message is to be generated, if a tape drive or a multiplexer cannot be accessed during the backup.
Selected:
If the tape drive or the multiplexer connection is not available, wait until it becomes available for the backup job. No error message is generated.
Deselected:
An error message is generated, if the storage medium or the multiplexer cannot be accessed.
