Backup/Restore - MS-SQL Backup

General description

The MS-SQL backup function is used to back up databases.
Before defining an MS-SQL backup job, you must set up a MS-SQL database.

The node manager detects automatically whether there is an MS-QL database in the system or not. In the System > Nodes Management dialog, the MS SQL Server attribute is displayed accordingly (yes/no).
NOTICE

 

Opening dialog

1. Go to Backup/Restore > Backup Jobs.
⇨ The Job Management window is opened.
2. In the Backup Jobs section, select > New > Single Job > MS-SQL in the shortcut menu.
⇨ The dialog for the definition of the backup job (Job tab) is displayed.

 

Defining job

On the Job tab, enter the job name, and select the node, the instances, the database and the backup scheme for the job.

Job description panel
Job name
Text field for job name.
Node
Combo box: All systems that contain an MS-SQL database are listed for selection.
Instance(s)/DB(s)
The databases to be backed up are listed here.

Opens a dialog for the selection of the MS-SQL databases to be backed up. All server instances and the associated MS-SQL databases in the system are shown.
 
 
Backup type: Select whether all databases or only customer-specific databases are to be selected.
 
All DBs
Choose this option to back up all selected databases found at the server instances.

Custom DBs
Display of customer-specific databases. You have the option to select entire server instances or individual databases to be backed up. Only the selected customer databases are saved.

Sorts the list of databases to be backed up. The sequence of the databases in the list corresponds to the sequence in which they are processed as backup jobs.

Reverses the selection made in the Instance(s)/DB(s) window.
Backup scheme
Select the backup scheme.
Database
The entire database is backed up.
Logfiles
Log files contain the details of changes made to the database in chronological order.
Log files can be used to reset a database to a specific point in time (point in time recovery).
Differential
All databases that have been modified or created since the last full backup are saved.
