Backup fails to Network Storage Location
Applies to File Backup and Disaster Recovery Image Backup functions in NovaBACKUP Business Essentials, Server, PC, and Buffalo edition
- If at all possible, DO NOT utilize a Wireless Network Interface Card (NIC), utilize a Wired Network Interface Card.
For one the speed of the wireless will be much slower and two the ability for the communication of the backup to be constant to the network backup will be much more reliable on a Wired network connection versus a Wireless network connection. If the network disconnects for a split second the backup will fail, so the chance of that a disconnection can occur for even a split second on a Wireless connection is much higher than on a Wired connection. The backup engine in the current version of NovaBACKUP SMB software cannot re-try the network connection if it becomes disconnected even for a split second.
- Restart Your Router and/or Network Switch. Update your Router to the latest firmware if at all possible.
- If using a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device then Update Your NAS Firmware.
- Update Your Network Interface Card (NIC) Drivers.
- Follow this guide on disabling Power Management on all Network Interface Card(s) on your PC:
Disable Network Interface Card (NIC) sleep settings (to correct backup device issues) - Turn off various Windows Power Management settings on your PC other than the above described Network Card's Power Management setting. Those settings are in Control Panel -> Power Options.
- Make Sure You are Providing Network Credentials For Your Destination or Create a Network Device.
Follow this article on creating a "Network Device" in NovaBACKUP for your network share or NAS:
NOTE: NAS devices require a username and password for a user account that exists on the NAS unit itself. The account used to login to the Web configuration for the NAS will work, the default will normally be "admin" or "root" for most devices.
