Symptoms:
Image Backup function is not displayed (missing) in the "Home" tab. Note: This issue can affect 19.8.1325 (19.8 Release) and 20.0.1011.1 (20.0 Release) in the same way, it also likely affects earlier versions. There is a simple method (approach # 2), and a more advanced method (approach # 1) to resolve this, detailed in this article.
Approaches:
----------------------------------------------------------------
1. Remove previous Drivers and reinstall them:
Follow these instructions to download a .reg file to remove previous drivers from the Windows Registry:
- Locate the setup file you used to install the current version of NovaBACKUP on your machine or via Windows "Programs and Features"
- First, make sure that you are logged in to Windows as a user with Administrator rights. If you are NOT logged in as a user with Administrator rights currently then these instructions will not work because there will not be enough rights to perform the actions necessary.
- You can download the fix in .ZIP format. If you use this method, you will need to extract the .reg file out of the .zip file to continue to the next step:
http://filestore.novastor.com/Downloads/NovaBACKUP/19.8/NBK_DRDrivers_Remove.zip - NOTE: If your anti-virus or anti-malware real-time protection software blocks .reg files from being saved then you may need to temporarily disable that type of software while you download and run this registry fix. You can re-enable the software after the fix is performed.
- Merge it (double-click)
- Reboot the machine
- Locate the setup file you used to install the current version of NovaBACKUP on your machine. Run the NovaBACKUP Setup.exe file using Right-click->Run as administrator
- When it starts select "Maintenance", "Next", followed by "Change"
- Select the drop-down to the left of "NovaBACKUP Image Backup"
- Choose the option "Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive"
- Select "Next" until you "Finish", if prompted to reboot, choose "Yes"
- Close the "NovaBACKUP Download Installer" dialog if it is open
- You should now be able to perform an Image Backup
NOTE: You must reboot the machine to allow changes to the registry\drivers to be applied.
----------------------------------------------------------------
2. Service is installed, but is not displayed under "Start" anyway
You can correct this by adding an entry in the configuration file nsconfig.ini:
Open the file "nsconfig.ini" in the path
C:\ProgramData\NovaStor\NovaStor NovaBACKUP\Profiles
with an editor.
Locate the [install] section.
Add the line "installed.dr=1".
This is how this section must look like:
[install]
installed.dr=1
If the section does not exist in the "nsconfig.ini" add it completely and copy it to the end of the file as the last section.
Stop/start the services
- Disaster Recovery Imaging
- NovaBACKUP Backup/Copy Engine
