Enable Drive Letter Management
You can find this option in the "Default Settings" => "Copy" and "Save" tab. Here you can enable/disable this option for all copy and/or backup jobs.
In the settings for "Copy" and "Save" jobs you can also configure this for each job separately.
This option is used in connection with USB backup devices.
Example:
You connect an USB hard disk to the system. Windows automatically assigns the drive letter H:. When creating your backup job, select drive H: or (better) a subdirectory on drive H: as the backup destination. NovaBACKUP remembers the internal, unique USB identification of the connected USB hard disk with the drive letter H:.
If this option is activated, the next backups will be executed correctly, even if the drive letter of this USB hard disk has changed. This is possible, because NovaBACKUP now searches for a connected drive with the previously noted USB identification and then uses the current drive letter of this USB hard disk for the backup, even if this is NOT H:.
However, if a second external drive is used at the same time:
If at the same time a second external USB hard disk is connected, and this one gets the drive letter H:, then NovaBACKUP will backup to this second hard disk, NOT to the "original" one with the USB identification! So NovaBACKUP always prefers the drive letter (H: in this example)!
If this option is turned off, NovaBACKUP will ALWAYS try to write to a drive H:, regardless of which (USB) hard drive is assigned this drive letter.
