**Always export tapes (using the "Library" tab) prior removing them from the library.
1) Using the "Library" tab, export tapes by right-clicking on one or more tapes and selecting one of the following options:
Offline Export - Use this to logically export a tape from the tape library (no mail slot, ready for removal).
Mail slot Export - Use this to export a tape to the mail slot for removal.
2) Select the "Off-site location" ("Removed_From_Library" in this example) for the export:
If "Offline Export" is chosen, the cartridge will remain in the physical library slot unless physically removed. The tape will be listed as exported and will be located in the Offsite Location.
If "Mail slot Export" is chosen, the cartridge will be placed into one of the "Mail Slot" as shown in the image below:
3) The tape(s) will be listed in the "Off-site location content" window which is visible from the "Off-site locations" tab:
Note: The "Import exported tapes" function will import all tapes that are listed as exported.
To import all tapes that are listed as exported, right-click on a tape that is listed as "exported" and select "Import exported tapes":
Click on the "Media Pools" tab to view the contents of each media pool. Cartridges that have been allocated to the selected media pool will be listed in the "Tapes" window:
To import tapes that have beep placed in the mail slot, right-click on the tape and select "Import" (only the selected tape(s) will be imported):
A properly constructed backup environment that is built on a stable infrastructure can yeild high performance dividends:
Note: When troubleshooting library issues, always check the library "Control" ID using the "hiscsi -scan" command and, compare the ID displayed to the ID listed in the interface.
If necessary, change (edit) the ID through the GUI interface to match the ID displayed with the "hiscsi -scan" command.
Run the "hiscsi -scan" command from the "C:\program files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\tape" directory using an elevated command prompt.
