Exclude DataCenter Files and Directories from Active Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Scanning (Version 9.x)

Exclude DataCenter Files and Directories from Active Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Scanning (Version 9.x)

Occasionally, certain Anti-Virus software may incorrectly flag or interfere with your DataCenter 9.x software from properly running or even installing. This can result in a failure to install / upgrade, failed backup job, unusually slow backup speed (transfer rate), failure for the application to start entirely, or the inability to see destinations to backup your files to.  Please also confirm no files shown here have been quarantined by your Antivirus software if you cannot find the file in the listed location.

Please see the files below and add the following folders to your Antivirus exception lists if you are experiencing any of these issues and are running an Antivirus Software on your machine.  Both CrowdStrike Falcon and SentinelOne are "AI based" AV apps known to block DataCenter from installing or can cause issues with DC 9.x services or processes being able to start or stay running without adding exclusions; neither product exempts DC processes by default, read about how to configure the exclusions for CrowdStrike Falcon here, and for SentinelOne here. By default, there are no exclusions, and you will need to exclude our processes in the behaviour engine by manually adding them in the management console. Both CrowdStrike Falcon and SentinelOne products are known to cause issues with the DataCenter 9.x software; like for instance the website login dialog cannot load (due to the 'TomEE.amd64.exe' process stopping), without adding the process exclusions that are detailed below.

Folders to Exclude (Program Folders):

Best practice would be to exclude all files and folders utilized by the DataCenter software, including a Command Server and a Client installation.  The folders to exclude are:

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\

C:\ProgramData\NovaStor\DataCenter\

Files to Exclude: (Processes or Executable's)

There are a total of 98 .exe files in a typical DataCenter Command Server v8.x installation.  A DataCenter Client installation has much less files, but there are similarities.  Best practice would be to exclude all *.exe files under the installed program path C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\. The primary list of the primary executable files that are used by a DataCenter 9.x Command Server system, which are the main proccesses to exclude in an anti-virus / anti-spyware application is here:

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\dcbs\dcbs.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\Hiback.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\Hiperf.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\Hiperf.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\hiserv.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\postgres\bin\pg_ctl.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\postgres\bin\postgres.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\postgres\bin\psql.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\tape\hijacc.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\tape\hiscsi.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\tape\mpx.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\vss\VSSdba.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\vss\vssnbk.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\mm\mmf.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\mm\muf.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\ms-sql\Himsdb.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\nbksrv\nbksrv.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\nginx\bin\nginx.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\nginx\bin\NovaStorDCCommandServerProxy.amd64.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\rcmd-executor\rcmd-executor.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\tomee\bin\TomEE.amd64.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Uninstaller\uninstall-Client.exe

Only for the DC 10.x versions, as the DC 9.x versions did not have these two additional "Remote Storage" DC licensed feature (Cloud Backup) .exe files (processes, that are not DC  services ) to think about excluding in AV (in that case all of the .exe files that are listed below are not DC service .exe's, they are processes that start up by default in DC 10.x versions:

These first 2 x .exe's are utilized for the "Remote Storage" licensed function, for Cloud S3 backups and retention jobs that execute (and in that case it isn't needed to exclude in an AV product if you do none of that though):

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\modules\dcsms\dcsms.exe

C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\modules\s3s\minio.exe

And, depending on the licensed features that your DC 9.x or 10.x version has enabled in it, which you can see in the "Settings > Licensing" dialog on the right side, under "Features", each of those features is a module, that each use a separate .exe file, and each sub-folder under the "modules" folder will contain at least 1 x .exe file in each sub-folder, which in that case you will have to think about adding to the AV exclusions in that case (only if you do utilize that DC 9.x or 10.x optional licensed feature component though); this is the list of the 8 x total "modules" sub-folders in DC 10.0.12 in that case, that has all of the licensed "Features" (modules) enabled on the license in that case, as a reference):

That equates to 10 x .exe files to potentially also need to think about excluding in your AV app (if you actually utilize any of the "modules", that are licensed "Features" in DC 9.x and 10.x:
