What the Legacy UI is for

The Legacy UI is the tabbed interface of NovaBACKUP 21.x and earlier versions. After an in-place upgrade, it stays linked from NovaBACKUP 22, so you can keep managing the jobs that NovaBACKUP 22 does not edit:

  • Jobs on legacy devices, such as tape, FTP, or NovaNet-WEB
  • Legacy image backup jobs
  • Copy jobs and Virtual Dashboard jobs

Both interfaces use the same backup engine, settings, and jobs, so a change made in one appears in the other.

Note: Legacy jobs that were configured in a NovaBACKUP Management Console (CMon) can still be changed from the CMon. Legacy image backup jobs can be edited only in the Legacy UI.

How to open the Legacy UI

  1. In NovaBACKUP 22, select About in the menu.
  2. Select Open legacy interface.

The Legacy UI opens in its own window and runs alongside NovaBACKUP 22. When you select a legacy job on the Backup page, NovaBACKUP 22 also offers the Open legacy interface button.

Note: If Open legacy interface is missing, NovaBACKUP 22 was installed as a clean installation. A clean installation does not link the Legacy UI and does not install the image backup engine. If you need legacy functionality on that computer, install NovaBACKUP 21.x instead, using your NovaBACKUP 22 license key.

Moving your jobs to NovaBACKUP 22

There is no deadline. Jobs on legacy devices keep running, so you can move them at your own pace. The goal is to have every job in NovaBACKUP 22 and nothing left on legacy devices, because:

  • A clean installation on a new or rebuilt computer does not link the Legacy UI, so jobs that open only in the Legacy UI can't be managed on that computer.
  • Jobs in NovaBACKUP 22 can use full system recovery from local or cloud storage, and can be managed from the CMon.

To move your jobs:

  1. Replace each legacy image backup job with a backup job that has Disaster Recovery selected, plus any other drives the image job covered. Stop the legacy image job, and keep its backups until their retention period ends.
  2. Recreate each job on a legacy device as a job on a Local Backup or Cloud Backup device, then stop the legacy job.
  3. Keep the legacy backup data until the new job has completed a full backup and you have test-restored from it.

Important: A recreated job starts with a new full backup. For cloud devices, this uses additional storage quota until you delete the legacy backup data.
